Querido Familia-
I didn't realize that this was a challenge as to see who could write
the best missionary letter for the reunion, but I am glad that you liked it
anyway. I have been reading in the Bible lately and found a little scripture
that applied to the family reunion (Kind of sappy of me right? But it was fun
anyway) It is in Genesis 18:15 (I think.....) It talks about how God knew Abram
and he knew that he would raise a righteous family and for that the family would
be blessed. I was thinking about Grandma and Grandpa Christensen and the Legacy
that they had. Their posterity have definitely been blessed by their obedience.
I am so grateful for that, as well as for Mom and Dad for being ones that God
would trust with us kids. We're kind of crazy sometimes, but we really grew from
your testimony and service.
I am glad that Matt and Katt can finally get out of the house and
have their own cute little place. I am so excited to see the pictures of the
house. Kat got so lucky that the place that they are building their house
already has a lawn! (even if it is a little pasture-ish). Bob, I sure am proud
of you for being so tough through all of your hard times. You rock and Neil
Armstrong had better watch out, because you're just going to be a champ
bicyclist.
I laughed so hard at the story about Tony and Thor. Those two got
busted hard. Poor little robins didn't even have a chance against those two
beasts.
I hope Tacos gets home alright and that he had a blast here in DC. I
know I do. And if it is anything like I got, He definitely got rained on a few
times. It has been SO MUGGY here! uggh. I will never have to drink water again
because it is all coming through my skin. But God still loves me and the people
here so the work must continue.
Well this week has been amazing. It was the week of miracles. None of
them were too absurd, but for us they were heaven-sent. The first one is about
our friend Marilu. One of the members in our ward Hma Bello told us about her
friend who's name is Marilu on the second day that we were here. But she didn't
have anything specific to tell us and she had no address. She said she would get
back to us with those. We kind of forgot about this as we continued on in the
transfer. Then last Sunday after the broadcast, she asked us to go with her to
meet her friend. We made an appointment and drove over to her apartment complex.
We knocked on the door and as we waited, I realized that we had been there
before. We had street contacted this woman and her family just a week and a half
earlier. We made plans to go back and visit, but they weren't there when we went
back (not an abnormal thing.) And we were going to go back later. Unfortunately
they had been out doing something before our visit and got held up so we
couldn't visit her that night, but I am SO excited to go back to talk with her
family. We loved them and were so excited to teach their family (who seemed
pretty receptive), and now we have a member fellowshipper. UN MILAGRO. I'll have
to update you later on how it goes.
The next one is about our friend Cristina. We knocked at her door and
her son answered and invited us back to meet with his mom. We did, and we
discussed her relationship with God. We didn't necessarily teach her a whole
lot, but we established where she was religion wise. We taught her to pray and
made an appointment to come back in 2 weeks. (WAAY too long away, but it was the
only thing we could do. :( ). She wasn't overly promising, but it was an
appointment, so we went back and she opened her door to us. We began talking and
then she asked the most wonderful question that a missionary wants to hear. She
told us that her brother had recently passed away and she asked " Where is my
brother right now, and will I ever see him again?" MILAGRO! We showed her the
Plan of Salvation and the Holy Ghost was there so strong. It was so sosososo
cool to watch her change toward the things we were saying. She was eating it up
and was really excited about the things we were saying.
There are dozens of these each week, but I'd like to share one more
today about our friend Isdenka. Hermana Storts, who was here before us and came
back for a day on exchanges, told us to find her and teach her because she was
ready for baptism but she only needed to come to church. She'd even given up
Coffee. We had made several appointments with her, but each fell through.
We really wanted to get a member to come with us to teach her, but we couldn't
find anyone that could come with us. Then yesterday, one of the hermanos at
church came up to us and told us about a young man who had come to church on
several occasions and that he wanted to go with us to visit with his family. We
had never heard his name before and so we looked in our records. Lo and behold
there was his name on Isdenka's records under her children. We have been praying
for someone to come with us to teach her for weeks. We will go and visit her
this week. MILAGRO!
The Lord is really showing his power to us this week and I am so
grateful. I am honestly scared to leave here now. I finally know the area, know
the ward members (AND LOVE THEM! THEY ARE SSSOSOOSOSO WONDERFUL!). We have built
this area from the ground up and all of our investigators were ones that we had
knocked into. We love them so much and I can't stand the thought of leaving them
right now. I still want to go to Peru, but now it is just a little bit harder. I
am so grateful for all the prayers and all the love. I have the greatest family
in the entire world. Be safe over the reunion and send everyone my love.
Les Quiero
Hermana Christensen
PS- for those who don't speak spanish- MILAGRO= Miracle.
