Hola familia bonita-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JADYN AND KYM AND
GRANDPA OGBORN! The fairy birthday party looks like it was a real hit. I really
need a calendar with all of these important dates on them. . Kym- I just love
that shirt on you! I hope you took it with you :) (Kym
borrowed one of Hannah's shirts and she saw it in a picture). Jadyn, McKay
and Bridger are just about the darn cutest little tykes that I have ever seen
(white kids, that is. The babies from India and the little ninos are So SOSOO
cute!). Thank goodness that the wheat was saved. (We
had a fire boarder our wheat field that is to be harvested this week)
Golly that is awful scary sounding. That could have been a nightmare. What a
tender mercy. I am glad that Matt and Katt are finally moved outish and living
it up in their new little house on the Porter Flood. (A
piece of our property. Now in the Melba 2 ward) Tacos, I am sorry to
hear that you've got a maniac (wild fair steer)
on your hands. It will definitely be safer to just huck that thing in the
freezer from the sound of it. That is too bad with the fair so close.
Well, the work continues on here in
the Bella Vista ward. Transfers were last week. We were called and told that we
are staying in our area for the time being. So we were not technically invited
to the transfer meeting since we are not moving. So the day of transfers, we
were working our little hearts out preaching the word when we decided to check
our phone. We had 3 missed calls from the APs 2 missed calls from the Zone
Leader and a missed call from the District leader.....uh oh..... We'd had
lessons all morning so we just didn't have time to check our phone and right at
the time we checked we had a dinner appointment. So right before going into the
appointment we called the APs and they informed us that we were actually
supposed to go to the meeting because we were receiving another Hermana in our
companionship. They had just forgotten to tell us about it. So the poor other
Hermana stood up in the meeting to greet her new companions, but no one was
there! oops. Hermana Rane was a champ and got everything all sorted out so
right now we are a tripanionship. Our new companion is Hermana Sorensen. She is
from Draper Utah. She has been here for one transfer longer than I have. It's
always a little tricky being in a threesome to balance out all the work and
speaking and stuff, but a) I have now spent more of my mission in a trio than
just a companionship of us two and b) This was critical to have happen because
Hermana Rane or I could be gone at the drop of a hat, so we need someone
permanent who knows our investigators and who knows our part of the area. She
is great and has a wonderful testimony of the Gospel.
So we got news from the mission
president that the musical "The Book of Mormon" is being shown in
Washington DC. So the mission president instructed us to always have a Book of
Mormon on hand and ready to share because we have a target on our backs at the
moment. I don't know how popular that kind of play will be with the Hispanic
culture but it is a great finding tool anyway- even if it is a roundabout way.
Everything is going great with our
friend Hasan. He is so AWESOME! He really reads his Book of Mormon and has
serious questions that you can tell that he has really pondered like "What
is the Spirit? Is he a man or just our conscience?" and "Why does
Jesus have more than one name?" This is a 17 year old kid! He just started
reading the Book of Mormon about 3 weeks ago and is almost done with 1 Nephi.
Wow. He is so excited to be baptized and to receive the Holy Ghost. He knows it
is true because he has seen the Spirit working in himself and that he is
changing for the better. His baptismal date is the 11th of August and I hope
that I will still be here to see him be baptized.
I hope I can be here on the 11
because we put another one of our investigators on date for the 11th of August.
Her name is Zenia. She had been taught before but about 4 years ago. The Relief
Society President gave her to us as a referral. We went in and shared the first
lesson about the Restoration, and she said that she knew that it was true and
wanted to be baptized. Apparently she had just gotten a new work schedule and
couldn't really have missionaries when she was hearing the lessons for the
first time and kind of got overlooked. But she knew that the Church was true
and tried to go to Church at times but didn't know what to do more than that.
God knows the people who are prepared to hear the Gospel. That is something
that I absolutely believe in. I am so grateful to have had a Relief Society
President who remembered this woman from 4 years ago for us to go visit.
Milagro.
Also, I hear that every ward is
receiving names of members who that was their last known address. It would seem
that they are really making a push to make sure that nobody gets overlooked.
Our ward received 25 names of people who Bella Vista was their last known Ward.
So we are working with the members and the bishopric to try to find out what happened
to these people. Some went back to their country and some died, some moved and
they need to get found again by the members and brought back into fellowship. I
am sure that the Kuna 5th ward received a few of those so maybe you could ask
the ward clerk to see the list and help him locate someone who you know is no
longer in the ward. I know I sound pretty missionary-y, but we CANNOT do it
without the help of the members. We literally can put all we have into it, but
we cannot do it without them. Dale- Help the young men in our ward to
understand the importance of missionary work. They're teenagers and have no
idea of how much good they can do for the kingdom of God in their own wards.
Help them understand the Doctrine of Christ and how that applies to themselves
and their friends. They are going to have to be tough. Because missionary work
is no picnic (unless there is a picnic for the ward, in which case you had
better be contacting members and getting referrals like crazy). We have nothing
to lose by sharing the Gospel, but when we don't our friends and acquaintances
have everything to lose when we are too scared or too shy.
I love being a missionary. I love
the people of Northern Virginia. I love the members of the Bella Vista ward.
There are 9 missionaries in the Bella vista ward alone. This work is moving
forward. I know that Christ is at the head of this Church and I am so grateful.
I love you all
(les amo)
Hermana Christensen
P.S. For the rest of our Pday we are
going to Arlington Cemetery! Look forward to getting pictures next week! :)
