Whaaasssssssuuuuuuupppp?!
Holy smokes mom and dad! You guys are quite the daredevils. Seriously! a Hot air balloon ride?! That is so rad! What a cool experience. People keep asking
me what the weather is like in my home and I try to tell them about how the
trees change colors and how pretty it is in the fall, but they don't quite seem
to get it. Oh well. Homecoming looked like a ton of fun. How great is that. And
might I add that Ben´s "eggplant" tie was rather dashing. Those pics sure are
presh. I was a little disappointed that Ben didn´t make his own corsage. But Liz
did a fantastic job. Tons of love to Sarah and Jonathan and their fam. Hopefully
Buggy heals up real fast so that she can take good care of Hyrum for me.
:)
Well, this week had a tiny bump in the road. Yolanda got anti-ed by her
nonmember daughter. She told us that she didn´t want to be baptized because of
tithing, but We knew that something else was up. She didn´t give us any details
at first, but we went back a few days later and she had some crazy idea that if
you get baptized then you have to pay the tithing for all of you ancestors who
didnt´pay their tithing. We corrected that and she seemed to be fine with the
gospel again. We went back again a few days later and she confessed that she
really wanted to be baptized but that her sister and her daughter support her
financially and that they would cut her off if she got baptized. So now we´re a
little bit stuck because Yolanda has about 76 or 77 years and cant work or
anything. We are doing what we can to teach her sister, but she isn´t overly
interested in listening to us. All hope is not lost however. We will continue to
work with her.
Dad has got some of the greatest questions. I love them. Ines is doing
well. She and her daughter Jenifer(pronounced yenifer) accepted the invitation
to be baptized, but there´s always a hitch. They work on Sunday. They really
really want to come to church, but they cant. Ines sells chicken on all the days
of the week and sells maybe 3 every day, but on Sunday she sells 15 or 20. That
supports her for the entire week. She is trying to sort out what she can do, but
it is tough. She has got some real desires to change her life by turning to the
Gospel. We sure love them.
As for finding methods, we are not allowed to knock on doors for several
reasons. 1. is that the Jehova´s witnesses and the Evangelistas knock doors and
we want to distinguish ourselves from them. 2. because we are hermanas, it is a
little bit dangerous if we don´t know who is behind the door. If we have a name
and an address we can go knock, but other than that, no. I actually miss
knocking doors like we used to in DC. What we do is street contacting. A whole
lot of street contacting. People usually hear us out and like it when we give
them pictures of Jesus. Members occasionally give us referrals as well. I
actually gave a talk yesterday in church about helping the missionaries. During
Relief society, about 8 Hermanas agreed to accompany us during the week in our
visits. Something worked. :)
One of the pics I sent was the fish we ate for dinner. I ate that thing
scales and all. I have learned that if you don't like something- too bad. You don't like it, you don't eat. Brown bananas and bruised apples are also something
that I have learned to accept with gratitude. The other day we cleaned all the
stones out of a bowl of wheat. It was literally like doing seed trays for the
Agronomy contest, except this was real life, with real rocks and real bugs. We
were picking them out and my companion whispered "this is stupid. There are
machines for this!" I just laughed. Peruvians are sure humble and wonderful
people. They are even willing to pick out all the rocks of their wheat before
they grind it to make their own bread. Bless them
I am happy and doing very well. I love you guys a whole lot. Thanks for all
the prayers and support.
Mom- I know you just sent me a package, but in the next package, could you
send me a leaf from the hill cummorah? I think that the Members would really
love to see it. No rush. Love you!
