Here's my letter from last week! Enjoy!
¡Hola todos!
Those pictures from the pool sure look like fun! but that is like
always. Mom mentioned to me about how you ate some homemade French fries
and I just laughed, because literally, I eat homemade French fries
every single day (if I want them. I do have enough
self control not to eat them every day) because my pensionista owns a
restaurant that sells them with chicken. But I get a fair amount of
them. hahaha. I was reading about homemade pies and bread and ice cream
and raspberry dessert and my mouth began to water
yummy. I want all of that stuff when I get back. It would have made me
trunky if the food here wasn't so darn delicious. There is a dessert
pastry thing called alfajor and they are just some of the most tasty
cookie dessert things that I have ever eaten. Sounds
like dad made a haul on his birthday. Awesome. What a blessing that we
have received from the Lord with snow in the mountains.
Yesterday, I gave a talk in church. I chose to do it on repentance
and forgiving yourself and others. It was one of the best talks that I
have ever given. I know that it was nothing from me but all from the
spirit using my mouth. So many people came up
to me afterward and thanked me for the talk, and I humbly told them that
the Lord wanted them to hear and feel that right then. That is the best
thing about being on a mission and having the Spirit be with us. That
the spirit can take whatever I have studied
or practiced and make my words powerful. I am nothing in this work. I am
only a humble (very humble when it comes to the language) kid who wants
to help other people. And I love it.
Vanessa is just the greatest! We gave her a chapter to read in the
Book of Mormon and the next day when we went by to visit, she hadn´t
finished it, but was really into it. She had marked a whole bunch of
scriptures and had tons of wonderful questions
about the things shed read. She also came to church. I know that the
members are really working with us on her. It was time for young women's
and we had to go downstairs for RS. She got really shy and said that
she didn't want to go by herself and that she
would rather go home than stay. Then like an answered prayer, the
President of Laurels came up and gave Vanessa a huge hug and cheerfully
invited her to class with her. She introduced Vanessa to all of others
and we left them smiling. She told us later that
she´d had a great time and that she wants to participate fully in YW
when she is a member. What an amazing miracle.
Yesterday after church in the evening we were out trying to contact
some referrals when all of the sudden black ash began falling from the
sky. I freaked out for a minute while I was trying to figure out what
the heck was going on. The sky was really grey
and I literally though that Vesuvious had erupted again. Then firstly, I
remembered that Vesuvious is in Italy and secondly that there isn't a
volcano that close. We asked what was going on and we were informed that
they were burning the dried sugar cane and
that all the ash flew up into the air and now it was coming down. It was
pretty nasty, but the sunset that night was fabulous. So pretty.
Things are going well, and I am just loving my mission. One of the
other greatest miracles that I have seen in my mission is when I am
sitting comfortably in Sacrament meeting listening to the Speakers and
really getting a lot from the talks IN SPANISH.
It is in those moments that in my head I say "Holy Smokes, I understand
Spanish" and offer a prayer of gratitude to my Father in Heaven for his
help.
I love you all!
